Elsinor presents a reading marathon of a selection of texts from Ariosto’s Orlando Furioso, one of the most exciting and magical texts of Italian literature. This extraordinary poem of chivalry, which in 2016 celebrates its 500 years, will be summoned within the walls of the Castello Sforzesco in the third edition of Milan Bookcity www.bookcitymilano.it.
The initiative, promoted by Elsinor Centro di Produzione Teatrale, will see the students of secondary schools of grade I and II in Milan engage in a “marathon” of readings of some of the paramount parts of the poem. The marathon will take place in the Library Bookcity in the Arms Courtyard from 10:00 to 16:30 on Sunday 20th November 2016.
The event will include the involvement of 20 class groups of 5 Milanese schools. The chosen texts are the result of a selection given by the book The Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto told by Italo Calvino. Ariosto, especially in the trilogy Our Ancestors, looks like a Calvino literary model, to the extent that combines rationalism and inventive freedom, irony and lucid and clear representation of reality in all its facets.
The reading is also an anticipation of the show to be held in May 2017 in the Castle, in the frame of the Festival Platform.
The Platform Festival is an initiative for young students in high schools of the first grade and this year will be dedicated at the Orlando Furioso.
